Every year since college, we've taken a day (whether or not this day is a work day, I will not say, in order to protect those involved. Or at least to protect the employed one involved) to Christmas shop and catch up.
We call it the Best Day of Our Lives.
In the past we've trekked out to Woodfield Mall, but now that we live on different ends of the city, it doesn't make much sense to fight traffic coming back into the city and then for one of us to have to fight traffic going through the city. So this year we met downtown.
We each got off our trains about a block away from each other, so we met in Intelligentsia for coffee before we headed out to the stores.
We first hit up Macy's.
Ingrid tried very hard to find a cologne for her husband, Luke (this gets confusing at times: "Do you think that this would fit Luke?" "I don't know, Luke usually wears a medium in shirts..." and so on). She didn't have any luck at Macy's, as you may have guessed from her face, or the fact that she's holding about 25 sample papers in her hand.
Then on to Old Navy, where we thouroughly agreed with their slogan:
Ingrid had a hard time figuring out whether the sweater on the mannequin was the right size for her Luke.
Then it was back to Macy's for lunch.
And dessert.
Now, since I work downtown, if this had been a work day, we would have had to be careful about where we shopped and when, so as not to be spotted by co-workers. So we would have waited until after lunch hours to shop up Michigan Avenue. Just hypothetically speaking. In any case, this is what we did.
Finally, we headed back to our ends of the city, but not without one last picture with our shopping bags in the rain.
If you just can't get enough of Ingrid and me (and who can), you can check out more on the Best Day of Our Lives 2007 here.

You know, out of all the billions of people in this world, I feel so lucky to be on 1/2 of the best day of our lives. Oh what the rest of the world is missing!
