Birthday at the Orchard

Well, it's been a month since my birthday, but I am just finding time now to post about how I celebrated it.

Luke arranged for us and a group of our friends to head to Woodstock, IL to pick apples the Saturday after my birthday. When we arrived at the orchard, some people hadn't eaten lunch yet, and others wanted to try the cider, pumpkin cake, or apple donuts, so we grabbed a table and enjoyed all of those in the cafe.

Hauna opted for a caramel apple.

Before we headed out to the orchard, some of the guys partook in some-what would you call this...apple cannon shooting?

We picked (and ate) all kinds of apples, and enjoyed the chance to savor one of the last warmer days of the early fall. I think it's safe to say that a good time was had by all, and Luke and I at least ended up with a LOT of apples.

On our way out, Hauna shared some of the feed she had bought to feed the animals. We had some close encounters!
And then it was time to consume the apples.

We invited everyone to stop by our apartment after picking, where we ordered pizza and, naturally, bobbed for apples.

So, lots of bobbing,

one apple pie,

four mini apple crisps, and lots of plain apple eating, we still had enough apples left to freeze for Kathy, Luke's mom, so that she could make an apple pie later!

Thanks for a great birthday, everyone!

I regret not having a piece of that pie...
It was the most lovely, fallish day, full of fallish activities. Thanks for letting us all celebrate with you!
