Groundhog Day!

Yesterday (Saturday) Luke, Jamie and I took a mini-road trip out to Woodstock, IL-a northwest suburb. The occassion was that the move Groundhog Day had been filmed there in 1992, and of course, Friday was Groundhog Day!

So, we left at 8:00 in the morning, with a stop at Starbuck's, and got to Woodstock a few minutes early for the 10am showing of the movie at the theater, which just happens to make an appearance in the movie (scene where Bill Murray shows up at the theater in a Rolls Royce, with a date dressed in a maid outfit)




After the movie, we walked around the town square for a little bit, finding other landmarks from the movie.
This is the corner that Bill Murray comes around, and runs into Ned Ryerson, the insurance salesman.

And of course the puddle that he steps in. Not actually a puddle any more, but there is a plaque to mark the spot.

Inside the Opera House (which is the hotel that Rita and Larry stay at in the movie), there was a chili cook-off. Jamie and I got to try all kinds of chili, and vote for our favorite. Jamie enjoyed visiting with the groundhog.


Here I am, by the gazebo. You can't tell very well, but I was dancing like Nancy Taylor. It was so cold out. Right around 0 degrees all day.

The Tip Top Bistro...which, in the movie is the Tip Top cafe.

The bowling alley scene which precedes one of my favorite scenes-driving on the railroad track and being stopped by cops, who Bill Murray attempts to order fast food from.

And finally...the bed and breakfast, which is actually a private residence!


In spite of the cold, we had lots of fun, and as much as we were hoping we might get stuck in a blizzard (Jamie and I were both babysitting that night), we got home safe and in plenty of time.
